Niko Solorio→ Biografie anzeigen← Biografie schließen Niko Solorio’s wry and humorous works are concerned with the false constructs of identity which play out in visual media. His video installations often embody a dreamlike point of view – a sort of dulled, satiated reflection upon desire which is posited for the viewer as a safe place, in a world replete with representations. Also an experimental musician, he performs under the moniker of Pocket Niko, a one man band which he describes as "Neo-Medieval-Minimalist-Electro-Pop". Solorio received a BFA from the California Institute of the Arts (2007) and has had residencies at both the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland (2005) and as a guest student of video artist Bjorn Melhus at the Kunsthochschule Kassel in Germany (2008). Solorio has performed and exhibited his work both in the U.S. and abroad including shows at the Grand Hotel Londres, Istanbul (2007); Transvizualia, Gdynia (2007); Kunstverein Hannover, Hannover (2008); Redcat, Los Angeles (2009); X-Initiative, New York (2009); Fanfulla 101, Rome (2010); Mudam Luxembourg, Luxembourg (2010); Cercle Blanc, Berlin (2011). Solorio is a native desert flower of the City of Angels (Los Angeles), where he is currently based.
