Immersion

Für die Videoinstallation "Immersion" nahm Farocki an einem Workshop des Institute of Creative Technologies teil, einem Forschungszentrum für virtuelle Realität und Computer Simulation. Eines ihrer Projekte widmet sich der Entwicklung einer Therapie für Veteranen, die unter dem Post-Traumatischen Stress Syndrom leiden. Farocki interessiert der Einsatz der virtuellen Realität und Spielen für Zwecke der Rekrutierung, des Trainings und jetzt auch der Therapie von Soldaten. Farocki untersucht die Verbindung zwischen virtueller Realität und dem Militär, wie die fiktionalen Szenarien der Compterspiele, sowohl für die Ausbildung der Soldaten vor ihrem Einsatz im Kampfgebiet, als auch für ihre psychologische Behandlung nach dem Kampfeinsatz benutzt werden. ;For the video installation "Immersion", Farocki visited a workshop organised by the Intitute for Creative Technologies, a research centre for virtual reality and computer-simulations. One of their projects concerns the development of a therapy for war veterans suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. Farocki is interested in the use of virtual realities and games in the recruting, training and now also therapy for soldiers. Farocki explores the connection between virtual reality and the military - how the fictional scenarios of computer games are used both in the training of U.S. troops prior to their deployment in combat zones, and in psychological care for troops suffering from battlefield trauma upon their return.
