Ellipsis

SynopsisCarefully extracted film noir inspired imagery is juxtaposed with appropriated sound tracks, iconic sound scores and sparse dialogues, which suggest suspense, flirtation, deception and disappearance. Ellipsis alludes to several narratives and is a pastiche on the noir genre, which turns around the tropes of a central male hero and the never-ending search for the elusive woman. The elliptical form resists the possibility of cohesion and muses; is she just part of their dream, or is it her fantasy?

BiografieAnne van Es is a historian and media archeologist who has worked for international film festivals such as International Rotterdam Film Festival and the Berlinale. She interested in sound and image in three-dimensionality exploring choreography, nuance and timing.

BiografieTina Bastajian is a Los Angeles born media artist, educator and archival/cross-media dramaturge who has exhibited internationally in festivals, galleries, and museums. Currently she is a researcher at the University of Amsterdam, researching cinematic tendencies in locative media. As illustrated in her work PERA pARkours, which was included in ISEA-Istanbul - 2011, she uses mobile augmented reality tactics by re-using and displacing archival and fictional components. Intrinsic to her single-channel work within experimental and Diasporan film are themes of the fragment, translation and the trace.
